Louise Bourgeois.

"It is very difficult to be a woman and to be likeable. This desire to be likeable, it is really a pain in the neck. How are you going to be likeable and be yourself?"

These words come from the mouth of the artist herself in Louise Bourgeois: The Spider, the Mistress, and the Tangerine. It was impossible not to stop and wonder at the truth of them.

If I could be a speck of dust on the pinky fingernail of Louise Bourgeois for one millimeter of a second I would be a happy woman Mona

  2. Ah, so that's my problem. I'm a woman. Because I certainly have fulfilled my 'pain in the neck' quotient. What a gorgeous outrageously great photo, as well as the quote.

  3. Mona...me too. I am just in awe of her, her honesty, her OUTRAGEOUS ability to say it like it is, even though it seems at first blush like madness...What a gift to the world. And, yes, Janet, isn't that photo AMAZING???? I think we need more of these roll models who are REALLY old and who don't give a damn. It makes me feel glad to be alive and lifts me out of the "usual."
